How many levels of home automation are there?

A home can have anything from a few automated functions to a complete system. This is how they are classified.

Home automation is now commonplace and within reach of any home or business. Technically, it is the set of systems able to carry out functions in a home automatically, both when you are in and when you are away.

Not all installations are the same. To compare them, the Spanish AENOR specification for home automation installations (EA0026) classifies them into three levels, according to the number of devices — each with a score — and the number of applications they cover: lighting, blinds, climate, security, technical alarms and so on.

Level 1 · basic: at least 13 points and 3 applicationsLEVEL 1
Level 2 · intermediate: at least 30 points and 3 applicationsLEVEL 2
Level 3 · excellent: at least 45 points and 6 applicationsLEVEL 3

Beyond the classification

The level is a useful reference for setting a budget, but what matters is what you need: which rooms, which functions and how you want to control them. That is why we study each project individually and, with KNX, the installation can start at one level and be extended in phases without redoing anything.
